HERALDRY of the
SCOTTISH BARONY

The owner of a Scottish barony, on petitioning the Lord Lyon, King of Arms, will usually be entitled to several additaments to his ‘basic’ coat of arms.

The armorial achievement as granted to the nobility of Scotland consists of arms (on a shield), crest and motto, and the baron when he applies for the "extras" appropriate for his situation may also petition at this time for a territorial designation, becoming John Smith of Tallieban rather than plain John Smith.
